Dayton Playhouse and Miami Valley Symphony Orchestra present the world's most beloved musical and final collaboration of Rodgers & Hammerstein. World renowned concert artist and conductor, Awadagin Pratt makes his debut as the new Principal Conductor of the MVSO with an orchestra of 55 performing the original full symphony score. Brian Sharp directs.

Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including “Climb Ev'ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and the title number, “The Sound of Music” won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars. The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows Maria, a cheerful and energetic postulate who is dispatched from her convent to serve as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp. Maria transforms the von Trapp home from a place of strict rules and regulations to a household filled with music and joy as she wins over the hearts of the children and the Captain. On the eve of World War II the family must make a most difficult decision to leave their beloved Austrian home and flee across the mountains to Switzerland.
