The Annual Clark J. Haines Soloist Competition

The Annual Clark J. Haines Soloist Competition will be held at the Sinclair Community College on Sat. August 9, 2008.  The winner of the competition will receive a $300 award and the opportunity to perform the winning selection with the MVSO during the 2008-2009 concert season.

The rules for the competition are as follows:

 

· The excerpt of the selected piece can not exceed ten minutes in length.

· The soloist must be a soloist and not part of a duet or small group.

· The soloist must supply their own accompanists

· Pianos for the soloists and accompanists will be provided.

· The music director reserves the right to play either a section or the whole of the winners selected composition. 

· The soloist can NOT currently be a professional player in any group or organization. (professional musician is anyone that makes a living playing their instrument)

· The soloist must provide a total of three copies of the performed excerpt to the judges. 

· All applications must be received by Saturday, August 2, 2008.  The specific time for the performance of your excerpt will be communicated to all performers shortly after Saturday, August 2, 2008.
